Domestic helper interview questions for families
Use these role, schedule, safety and expectation questions to run a fair and useful helper interview.
Experience and responsibilities
Ask open questions and request examples instead of relying only on yes-or-no answers.
- ✓ What did a normal day in your previous role involve?
- ✓ Which duties are you most experienced with?
- ✓ Which duties are you not comfortable performing?
- ✓ Why did your previous arrangement end?
Timing and travel
A workable commute and mutually understood schedule are essential for a reliable arrangement.
- ✓ Which days and hours can you commit to?
- ✓ How will you travel to this location?
- ✓ What weekly leave do you expect?
- ✓ How should either side communicate an absence?
Role-specific situations
Use realistic situations related to cooking, childcare or elder support. Do not ask a non-clinical helper to claim medical skills they do not have.
Close with clear terms
Explain the duties, salary range, payment cycle, household rules and next verification steps. Give the candidate time to ask questions too.
